Lake St. Peter is a beautiful Cottage Country lake located along Highway 127 in Hastings Highlands, north of Bancroft.
Surrounded by the natural landscape of the area, Lake St. Peter is an attractive destination for those looking for a recreational cottage, waterfront home or peaceful escape from the city.
The lake has a surface area of approximately 578 acres (231 hectares) and reaches a maximum depth of approximately 94 feet.
One of the special features of this area is Lake St. Peter Provincial Park, located on the western side of the lake. The surrounding area offers trails and woodlands to explore, making it particularly appealing to buyers who enjoy the outdoors.
Lake St. Peter offers the relaxed Cottage Country lifestyle many buyers are searching for, with opportunities for boating, swimming, fishing, paddling and enjoying the outdoors.
There is a public boat launch, and the nearby Heritage Trail provides additional recreational opportunities away from the water.
Fishing is also part of the Lake St. Peter experience. The existing lake information identifies rainbow trout, lake trout and smallmouth bass among the fish found in the lake.
Lake St. Peter also has the advantage of being an established small community. For larger shopping trips and additional services, Bancroft is within convenient driving distance.
When considering a waterfront property on Lake St. Peter, buyers should look beyond the cottage or home itself.
Some of the important features I encourage buyers to consider include:
- Shoreline and swimming conditions
- Waterfront exposure and views
- Water depth and docking
- Privacy
- Lot size and topography
- Road and driveway access
- Year-round versus seasonal use
- Parking
- Well, lake-water or other water systems
- Septic systems
- Cottage or home condition
- Outbuildings and waterfront structures
The combination of these features can have a significant effect on both market value and how much you will ultimately enjoy the property.
Two cottages on the same lake can look similar on paper but offer very different waterfront experiences.
When determining the value of a Lake St. Peter property, I look at much more than bedrooms, bathrooms and square footage.
For waterfront buyers, the land, shoreline and setting are an important part of what they are purchasing.
When evaluating a property, I consider the waterfront, swimming conditions, exposure, privacy, views, road access, parking, lot characteristics, cottage condition, improvements, well and septic systems and overall presentation.
I also consider recent comparable sales and the properties currently competing for the same buyers.
A successful listing strategy needs to consider the market that exists today. Proper pricing and good presentation can make a significant difference in generating buyer interest, particularly in a price-sensitive waterfront market.
I have been selling real estate throughout Bancroft, Hastings Highlands and the surrounding Cottage Country market for over 25 years, with a large part of my business focused on waterfront, recreational and rural properties.
I work alongside Ray Krupa as the Emma & Ray Team at Century 21 Granite Realty Group Ltd.
Together, we have consistently achieved CENTURION® Award recognition for approximately 20 years, and in 2025 achieved DOUBLE CENTURION® Producer status.
Over the years, we have worked with buyers and sellers throughout the area's many lakes and communities.
Our experience has taught us that every waterfront property needs to be evaluated individually. Waterfront quality, access, exposure, privacy, topography and condition can make a considerable difference in value, even between properties located only a short distance apart.
If you're considering selling your Lake St. Peter cottage or waterfront home, we would be happy to provide an opinion of its current market value based on the individual property and current market conditions.
If you're looking to buy on Lake St. Peter, we can help you compare properties, understand the characteristics of the waterfront and identify the factors that may affect both value and enjoyment.
